Great autonomy and efficiency in the Samsung Galaxy S23 thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

As a reminder, the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor that is present in the Samsung Galaxy S22 series phones has overheating and thermal throttling issues. Interestingly, these problems are the fault of Samsung itself due to the low efficiency of its factories when producing this 5nm chipset.

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 that came out a few weeks ago is now made by TSMC, and the results are very positive. For example, the Xiaomi 12S series gets up to 2 additional hours of screen time on the same battery capacity as the equivalent Xiaomi 12.

That said, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to be at least equal to or slightly more efficient than the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Based on information available so far, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (codenamed ‘Kailua’ ) bears the model number SM8550 and will be manufactured by TSMC using the second generation of their 4nm process.

A few months ago, it was revealed that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 efficiency tests are going well and the chip has performed better than its direct predecessors. The new chip is likely to be announced in November or December this year, with the Samsung Galaxy S23 series officially launching in early 2023.
