Official: the Samsung Galaxy S23 will only use Snapdragon, goodbye Exynos - Gadget Loh

In recent weeks, a very striking rumor had emerged about the Samsung Galaxy S23. The reports said that Samsung would only use Snapdragon chipsets in the future series of phones Galaxy S23 badge. This pleased many potential buyers, although it had not yet been officially confirmed.

But now, it is the same Qualcomm that officially confirms this news. Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy S23 will not mount Exynos chipsets in any region. The chip manufacturing giant confirmed the rumors during the Q&A session with analysts after breaking out its quarterly financial report.

Asked about the renewal of Samsung’s chip supply deal, Qualcomm’s chief executive said chips are already being supplied to the South Korean tech giant. Additionally, CEO Cristiano Amon added the following:

“And what I can say at this point is that we were 75% in the Galaxy S22 before the deal. We are going to be much better than that in the Galaxy S23 and beyond.”

Notably, this chip deal is a 7-year extension. It will also include processors that are outside of the realm of phones and will go to Galaxy devices like laptops, tablets, future extended reality devices and more. Amon said this is “a very significant deal, very exciting and really the companies are much closer together.”

In other words, it’s a multi-year agreement signed by both parties and we can also expect it to include 6G components in the future.

Apart from this, previous rumors had hinted that the performance of the Exynos 2230 5G modem compared to the Snapdragon X70 modem is one of the reasons why Samsung decided to sign an exclusivity agreement with Qualcomm. Added to this is the poor performance, thermal throttling, heating, and other issues associated with Samsung recently.

Starting with the current Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, Qualcomm’s flagship chipsets will be based on TSMC’s advanced 4nm process. This enables it to offer better power consumption and better performance than any other Android chip currently on the market.
